If your dog is from another registry, but at one time BOTH parents and all grandparents etc. were registered with the AKC and the dogs had been sold with breeding rights and was eligible for AKC membership, but the breeder, for some reason, choose not to register the offspring with them, the offspring may be eligible for membership in the AKC. All P&Q's have to be met and the official paperwork must be in place. At one time. some breeders left the AKC because new companies were offering free rates to register with them, and they didn't participate in showing their dogs anyway so they didn't think AKC membership was that important. With the internet, buyers are more informed and most of them want a dog who is eligible to be registered with the AKC even though they don't want to register the dog or breed. So breeders who have left the AKC can now come back, but the AKC is a stickler on paperwork, so that must be in place. |
