I don't care who's doing it if it helps keep companies truthful. Sure, the competition has a lot of incentive to call them out on their misrepresentation, and I'm sure it isn't cheap to have an independent laboratory do the testing, so your average consumer won't be able to do this. There was probably a whistle blower who worked for Blue Buffalo who gave Purina the facts, and I think it's great. I personally don't believe a company would want to bring forth this complaint unless it were true, the backlash could prove disastrous.

As far as comparing this to chicken jerky, so many companies, not just Purina, bought the chicken jerky that was made in China. It took a long time before they could find out what was causing the problem because most dogs ate it and were fine, tests were inconclusive for a long time. This is different because they weren't claiming it's one thing and it's another, and that is what Blue Buffalo is doing.
