New to this forum - need advice on puppies Hello everyone,
I just joined this forum but had been coming here for some Yorkie info for a while.
Our beloved Yorkie passed away last December. Although we're still grieving, my husband and I feel we're ready for a new puppy to fill our home and hearts with Yorkie love once again and had looked at four places yesterday. We don't want to spend too much time looking around but we also want to make sure we get the right match.
One puppy we looked at was a male. He was born to a family in the city that lives in a small apartment. They're not professional breeders and this was their first litter. I think that they did this to augment their income.
Anyway, they told us that the three other pups were already gone at 8 weeks but they kept this one a little longer because he was too small (60 grams at birth). The mother is about 4.5 lbs (and she's beautiful! - I wanted to buy her!) and the father is 3.7 lbs. (they don't own the father). The pup is now 12 weeks old and when we came to see him, he looks like he's almost as big as the mom so I doubt if he's going to stay around the same weight as his mom. I suspect that because she was a tiny pup, they might have gone overboard with feeding.
Any view on his growth? Could the pup stay small at this stage / current weight?
As we travel with always took our Yorkie on vacation with us, also when flying, we want to do the same with our next Yorkie -- and so the pup that we get should grow to around 6 lbs.
Thanks in advance for your advice. |
