Definitely have a pet nutritionist guide you, especially since Piper is young and has nutritional needs in the first year that are important for growth and development. Dogs do need some protein, and there is a difference between the source being animal protein or vegetable protein.

There are many commercial dog foods that would be good for her nutritionally as well as be appropriate if she does turn out to have MVD. You might consider this too, in combination with home cooking.

BTW my Tiki was diagnosed with "probable MVD" at 7 months so I understand your concerns. I went through many combinations of food, both homecooked (chicken, rice and veggies) and commercial, and I am happy to say that she is now 6 years old and doing very well on primarily a high quality kibble only. The only time she gets sick is when somebody gives her the wrong people food, like bacon or cheeseburger.

Good luck, and I do hope a nutritionist will help you develop a plan that is specific to your pups needs.
