Hello Everyone! This is my first post and I am new to the site. Just a little background about me. Seven months ago I purchased a yorkie (I know many people do not like to use the term teacup, but let's just say she is very tiny around 3 pounds at 9 months). I was a little hesitant at first because I had a yorkie for 11 years prior to her. Although I loved my first Yorkie she was quite a challenge. To begin, an ALPHA female - it was her way or no way. She was constantly barking, biting, we could not have company without it being a big deal, the whole 9 yards. Let's just say she got kicked out of obedient school! Never fully potty trained, went inside/outside ... all over - many carpets had to be replaced over the years. Although despite her difficult personality I still developed a love for the adorable breed. She was my first dog and to be honest some of that may very well have been my fault due to being clueless about being a pet owner. Although I do think it was a combination of an alpha female and not being knowledgeable.

Well needless to say, I decided to give it another try after waiting two years. My new yorkie, Lex is TOTALLY opposite of my last one. Personalities could not even compare (isn't it crazy how one dog is so different from another within the same breed). Lex is very outgoing, lovable, will give you kisses non-stop, and just wants attention. She is a very active which I expect because of the breed and she is a baby (10 months) but we are working on calming down. My number one concern is the potty! We decided to train her 100% pee pads. I truly do not believe it matters whether or not the dog is trained to go potty inside (on pads) or outside but you must be consistent. Lex has such a little blatter and we are not always home so we have found that this method works best for us (even though it may be a little more expensive - totally worth it). Anyways, I have been working VERY hard with her and I would say she is 90-95% accurate with her pee pads. Very little accidents as I constantly praise her for going in the right places (she has a spot downstairs and upstairs). My ONLY issue is she is CONSTANTLY missing the pads by maybe an inch or two. Literally two paws on and two paws off. The pads are on hardwood floor and I really do not want to replace my hardwood! I would rather correct the issue before its too late. I can't discipline her because she DOES know where to go she just not fully on the pad. I constantly change them once a day as well.

I have tried a number of solutions and I am still not successful so maybe someone has some suggestions for me! Her pads are pretty big, I believe 22x23. At first I tried putting a towel under to salvage the hardwood but that didn't work. Then I bought pee pad holders (I did not even know they exist) literally holds the pad in place -- although they have definitely helped improve the problem and keep her pads neat and in place we are still having accidents. Then I tried buying a litter box and placing her pad inside where she would actually have to hop in (not a big hop) but I cant seem to find the right dimensions that accommodates the entire pad while still having a little edge that she would have to walk over. Pretty much out of suggestions. I am constantly worrying about the floors, her urine sitting on them as I am working. Its very stressful and I am willing to do anything to solve the issue. Any advice or suggestions I would really appreciate. Otherwise, as far as potty she is doing great! Yorkies are trainable - but let me tell you it has not been easy! Anyone who is struggling just be patient, these adorable animals are very smart! I never knew it was possible to train a yorkie after my first experience but let me tell you, it just takes time!
