Sadly, I lost my boy Chuck about a month ago. He was 13 and his mental health had been steadily declining for a year. He stopped playing, didn't enjoy car rides, and began rejecting my husband and my affections. The deciding point occurred when we came home from work and he was pacing in a circle. He had pooped on the floor and stomped in it. He fought me when I tried to bathe him. It was heartbreaking to see him struggle so much - getting stuck in corners, confused where he was, staring at walls. We only wanted to bring him peace.
The vet and her assistant could not have been sweeter; they treated my husband, Chuck and me with kindness and respect. Other than the initial pinch of the first muscle relaxer, Chuck felt no pain. I held him as it took effect and hubby scratched his neck, just like he likes. All four of us pet him as he passed, talking to him gently, and assuring him that he was a good boy. There was nothing but love given to him just as he had loved us. |
