I don't know if he has stomach issues because his poo is normal - no runs or anything. I don't know what to make of it at all other than he just doesn't like the dog food anymore bc he wants human food. I am concerned though that he doesn't like the yogurt anymore. I did do my homework and found the food list that is good for dogs and in fact only started adding human food bc he had a bad reaction to his kennel cough shot and had diarrhea so i did some boiled chicken and rice for a few days. Ever since then he is not crazy about his food anymore. What would be signs to look for as far as dehydration from not drinking?
Yes, after they have been sick a few days and you put them on the chicken/rice diet, they are very reluctant to go back to eating their old dog food. You have to wait them out, they are smart and know if they wait long enough you will give in. Dogs and even children, will not starve, you have to be strong and not mix anything in with the food. Hopefully, this dog will be your companion for 15 or more years, and you'll be much happier if you haven't made him super fussy. It's not bad to occasionally give them ice cubes, but I agree with Maximo about having several bowls of water available. You've tested him and he is able to drink something so you can go back to water. I think when they are sick and not drinking enough water, chicken broth (unsalted) can be helpful, but it shouldn't have to be a necessary part of everyday life. Just put out the food at his scheduled feeding and if he walks away, pick it up after 10 minutes and bring more food out at the next feeding. After approximately 24 hours they will be eating, but he will try to test you again. Just tell yourself, you love him more than the need to comfort yourself.
