The recommended age is 12 weeks. Even at 12 weeks, you have to remember that young puppies are very sensitive to stress. Taking a puppy (dog) to it's new home is very stressful at any age. If you add to that, long hours of no interaction, that is an unimaginable amount of stress to a puppy that has always had security in the form of socialization from it's litter/momma. Especially all at one time. So you can start to see how young puppies are then subjected to illnesses and behavior issues brought on by stress, especially a tiny 9 week old, but this can happen at any age when their level of stress is elevated. In my opinion, this is not the way to bring in a new puppy to a home when they are most delicate. It's almost impossible to do any kind of potty training if they have to start off this way.
