Signs of dehydration: pale and sticky gums, thick saliva, loss of skin elasticity, lethargy, sunken eyes.
Try putting his water in different bowls. I found that my boys drink more since I changed their water bowl to a small glass custard bowl (Max will not drink out plastic unless a bottle, and they both dislike stainless steel for water). We also praise them every time we see them take a drink.
Change the water 3 times a day to keep it fresh. We use refrigerated filtered water. You can drop ice cubes in the water dish.
If he prefers fresh foods, I would do as 107barney suggested in the 2nd post of this thread and get a recipe from petdiets.com and use the supplement. This will ensure a properly balanced diet and keep him eating.
Careful with the cheese -- lots of fat. Also, what kind of chicken broth are you using? The experts can advise which is best because I think the canned stuff has too much salt.
