MVD usually doesn't cause acute liver failure and many dogs live long lives with it. Not that breeders should breed dogs to have it and your breeder should be aware of MVD/shunts if she is breeding at all. So whether this dog has MVD or not, your breeder and her lack of familiarity with MVD/shunts in this breed tells me all I need to know about her. But, it would be very unusual for MVD to cause this as the vet earlier told Linda.
I'm sorry to read this terrible news about Piper. I hope that a miracle happens. I know I would have a hard time with all of this. You must be tired, try to take some care of you. |
If she has MVD that makes whatever slammed her even more difficult to repair. Bobbie and I have discussed this and the vet has told us both the same thing. No, MVD would not cause this by itself. BUT, I do think, if she has MVD the breeder should know about it. To say that you don't know about liver disease as a breeder of 20 years? Pretty disgusting...I am so sick of breeders saying they don't know all of these conditions that they themselves choose to ignore. They just keep on breeding and making money. (edit to add that I don't think ALL breeders do this)
