Looks like a really nice coat to me.
In regards to snapping when groomed, I really feel that this can be easily resolved with some positive reinforcement training. A friend's Yorkie hated it as well and I worked on getting him to accept the brush and clippers by handling the puppy while holding the brush and sharing treats/praise. Most people are too busy to work on this kind of training and the puppy only comes into contact with those items when it's timed to be groomed, which can prove to be a scary experience!
