Do they still think this is something infectious? Or toxic? Was her white blood cell count elevated? I'm not sure you mentioned that earlier.
MVD usually doesn't cause acute liver failure and many dogs live long lives with it. Not that breeders should breed dogs to have it and your breeder should be aware of MVD/shunts if she is breeding at all. So whether this dog has MVD or not, your breeder and her lack of familiarity with MVD/shunts in this breed tells me all I need to know about her. But, it would be very unusual for MVD to cause this as the vet earlier told Linda.
I'm sorry to read this terrible news about Piper. I hope that a miracle happens. I know I would have a hard time with all of this. You must be tired, try to take some care of you.
