 Dew claw injury
JoJo jumped off the couch, screamed, and started limping, then I noticed a trail of blood. I took him to the tub to rinse the gushing blood to assess his injury, thinking he ripped or broke the nail on his dew claw as he's done this before. However, this time it's not the nail...he ripped the claw from his foot at the skin, so it's sticking out to the side kind of loosely. I was having a hard time getting a really good look at it because he was freaking out, so I rinsed it as best I could until the bleeding stopped (for the most part), and wrapped it in a bandage and a sock. He seems OK now, just walking funny with his paw all wrapped up.
Is this something that can heal on its own, or does he need to see a vet? I just paid all my bills so I have NO money for 3 weeks and no one I've contacted can help. I just spent over $700 recently at the ER vet because he ate some gum w/xylitol at my mom's house and can't even imagine how much this would cost! I'm beside myself with worry for him!! |
