Now that spring is here, he's decided to go inside on the carpet, and rarely goes to the door. We are taking him out at least once an hour while we are home, and keeping him in the pen when we are gone. We have tried crating him at night, but he has always howled and kept the entire family up at night, so we don't crate him anymore.
Our vet says he sees nothing medically wrong with him that would be causing him to go inside now instead of outside. Is he just being a brat? Nothing here has changed, and we clean with Natures Miracle when he goes on the carpet, but he's still going back to the same places, and all of a sudden loves to lift his leg and pee on the wheels of our birdcage. He's was fixed last spring. Any ideas why he would wait til spring to decide not to go outside, and what we can do to change it? I'm hoping we aren't looking at another 10 months of training him.
You may have to start again from scratch. When you tried crating him at night, was he in the bedroom with you? Our Bella sleeps in a small dog carrier on the nightstand, where she can see us sleeping, and she is perfectly content, except when she needs to potty, and then she'll wake us up and we'll take her out. At bedtime, she runs right into her carrier--she knows the drill.
