Constipation is the worst for dogs (and humans) alike. The problem seems to be even more compounded (literally) for the smaller breeds of dog. That said you could try mixing some canned and dry. For now I'm feeding Darla canned and dry Puppy Plate by Merrick mixed together. The canned foot will help to soften the stool for your little man. Also sweet potato has similarities to pumpkin with regards to the digestive track. So I'd look for a food that has sweet potato advertised as a main ingredient. We feed our German Shepherd the Merrick buffalo and sweet potato formula. If all else fails you can cook your own food. Grandma Lucy's artisan dog food is my utmost favorite food to feed. I'll end up switching Darla to that when she's not a puppy anymore. It has the smallest list of ingredients I've ever seen. They also make a pre-mix of vegetables and nutrients for dogs that you just add meat to and feed. So if you want to cook for little Jax, that's a good option.
