Default Severe belly noises

Our Yorkie had a liver shunt about 3 years ago and has done well with it. However, we have noticed over the years that he seems to have more issues with belly issues than the other two dogs (rat terriers). We weren't sure if there is any research out there that the ring left inside him would ever cause problems with the belly. Not exactly sure what the issue is - when it starts, there are a lot of intestinal noises and he stays close to me - usually right at my neck/face. He then will either vomit or just pass gas/stools. No blood or anything odd or unusual about either. The episodes seem to be getting closer and he is now exhibiting behavior of low blood sugar and his legs giving out from under him for unexplained reasons. Once the belly issue clears itself, he is always back to his usual bouncy, full-of-life self, so we just attributed this to excessive gas. But we are just curious if anyone else has ever experienced anything like this, especially following a liver shunt procedure. Thanks for any input.
