Ignorance is bliss, lol I was raised with dogs from the time I could walk, know a bit about some breeds. Trained dogs for obedience and protection for a Kennel for good money, working with all types and breeds. Had mixed breed, Rotties, Dobies, Queensland Heeler, even a Yorkie.
Well I would read up a little about the breed, then proceed to training, no problem. Well when Sig passed we wanted a dog that would live a long life and as we were getting older, easy to pick up, I remembered Angel, my Yorkie, Wife said that would be great. Now Wife was never a dog person before Sig, now she miss's her terrible.
Well I started the search, I found Angel in the 80's and seemed like there were always a local litter or two then. Well in Tucson papers only one Yorkie add, called her and first thing I said was wanted Parents on premises (with in reason, but wanted to at least see the Dam). She went on about the puppies, and I asked again to see the parents, she said that would be impossible as the puppy would come from out of state. Well can't say puppy mill, but that ended that conversation. Looked up AKC breeders in Tucson and Phoenix, went through several, none were breeding anymore, then one recommended I call this lady. She was great, put deposit down and will head up there next month to pick our pup.
So, start getting things for the Pup. we have a big Crate/Cage we sometimes used for Sig 3'x2', that will work for general "can't watch" times. Bought a small carrier too, some toys and chews, might as well get a book for my wife too. Big mistake, lol.
I read it to see what they said (I spot red in store and liked what it covered), scared the living daylights out of me, lol. I had treated Angel like a dog, no Karo syrup or any of that stuff, she jumped on and off the bed, sofa and in and out of the truck. How she survived I'll never know, musta been lucky. She was a walking trick book, well over 100 commands/tricks
Never thought I'd be scared getting a new puppy, lol |
