Always ask yourself, "Am I doing this for the dog or me", taking into consideration recovery and quality of life. We kept "Sig" alive and happy for 2 years and 4 months with kidney failure, but her quality of life was great till the end. We spent may times hand feeding her when she refused to eat, as long as she kept her muscle mass and was not in pain we held on. She had a great life till the last week when we could not get enough food in her, but the Vet had told us 6 to 8 months when the blood tests diagnosed the problem, so we feel good getting 2 years and 4 months.

Its a hard decision to put your dog to sleep, but look at it from the dogs view when you decide on surgery or not. You'll do the right thing which ever way you decide that way, prayers with you and the pup.
