Hi,
I am the mamma to 4 aging yorkies. The oldest is 14 years old and has an oral/nasal fistula that developed after his canine was extracted. He has had surgery to attempt closure of the fistula, but it is still present. He does sound wet and snorty at times. I make his food and try to keep it a good consistency to avoid the food migration into his sinus. I boil chicken breast (shredded or chopped in food processor), add peas and carrots and brown rice. We recently spent the night in the E vet. He awoke with vomiting followed by difficulty breathing. I think he aspirated. His chest xray revealed a mass vs. aspiration. we will be doing follow up xrays soon. He had eaten a very large meal prior to bedtime. I think his "old" stomach overflowed....I was advised to use benedryl to help with any secretions caused by the irritation of food substance in the nasal area....He is 4.6 pounds and seems to be doing better. Good luck to you!!!
