4 months is generally the perfect time to separate a pup from their mom. Both our yorkie Chiquis and our Malinois/Labrador litters generally stay with their mom and dad until that age. We were surprised to find out that dads are generally too lax with pups compared to moms, so the laters are the ones who end up teaching them manners for both indoors and outdoors interaction with humans and other dogs.
Our second lab (now 10 yo) was too tiny when my dad brought her home, but other than her being more protecticve of our home (she's as good, if not better than our young yorkie when it comes to detecting nearby strangers with just her hearing&nose), she turned out to be very obedient and an excellent mom. |
