Avoiding potty training? When we got Chiquis at 8 months, I started feeding her outside, morning and evening, and waiting a little while before I'd let her come in, to encourage going potty outside. She has gone at different places in the yard, and I haven't praised her because I'm not there. When I do see her go, it's usually almost immediately after eating This has worked in that there have been just a few accidents inside, but unfortunately she doesn't know how to ask me to let her out, so if she does need to go unexpectedly, she is not going to tell me. She will scratch on the sliding glass door when she wants to come IN, but not the other way around. The woman who had her before we got her said she used newspapers and let her go inside. My niece also did the same with newspapers when she had to take care of her for a week when my husband was hospitalized. I would like to train her to go inside when the weather is bad and also wish she would ask to go outside when necessary. I never caught her in the act, so I couldn't scold her for going inside, either. I feel like I haven't really potty trained her; I've just avoided the problem. I worry what we'll do when we travel with her, too. Any advice? |
