What terrible news. No doubt you are in shock and dazed in disbelief. Take a day or two or four to gather yourself, grieve, feel awful, get angry and then you'll have to fight for your life yourself, as it doesn't sound as if your specialists gave you many options available to them. But a cure might be out there! We hear of them frequently - yes, even in incurable cancers. Gather your family and friends and see who is with you and who will be willing to go to bat for you and try to work very hard and inventively find the very best, latest and cutting edge treatments available for you.

First, I'd call those specialists and tell them you would like them to help you get well, you won't settle for "incurable" and let them know you expect as doctors who want to heal patients to work together and through their hospital's outreach program to try to get you into a program funded by a government or corporate grant to have treatment at one of the cutting edge cancer centers where you could try see if you are a candidate for gene therapy treatment to attack or change the cancer's own DNA or change the characteristics of the malignant cells to those of a healthy cell or kill off the bad cells - whatever method they might consider the most effective in your case. You hear of absolute miracles in the field of inoperable, incurable cancer of the lungs now days and there is no reason you couldn't try to become a candidate for one of those programs, is there?

Maybe you or a close family member who will act as your patient advocate could call the Canadian Cancer Society, talk with a counselor and see what is available for you in the way of the gene treatment programs. It sometimes takes major pushing, prodding and nagging and becoming a professional nudge but the loudly squeaking, ever-noisy, never still, always rolling forward wheel gets the oil and much of the attention! Try making some noise and seeing what type of genetic treatment is out there and find a way to get to it. There are pilots who fly patients for cancer treatments here and there and all kinds of things can happen when people put their heads together to help an "incurable" cancer patient get treatment they might not otherwise have access to.

Cancer Treatment Centers of America often show commercials about their genetic treatment programs. Here is a link to read and consider:

Genomic Tumor Assessment | CTCA

I'm sure M. D. Anderson and many Canadian, New York Hospitals also offer genetic tumor assessment and treatment for those who are candidates for this type of treatment or even other modalities of treatments that are not widely known. It's worth checking these things out as your doctors don't seem to be offering a lot of hope.

I'll for sure be praying for you every day. Don't give up though. Fight to live.
