 Yoda has Diabetes and is Blind Now :(
Yoda got diagnosed with diabetes a few months ago and has now lost his sight recently as a result of the cataracts and diabetes. He is 11 years old now, almost twelve... He had been managing well, he gets his blood tested twice a day and we use AlphaTrak 2 monitoring strips. We prick his tail for the blood and he doesn't seem to mind too much. Sometimes the monitoring strips are faulty though and don't register a number (about 10% of the time), which is a bit annoying because the test strips are over $1/each.... He seems to need insulin at least once a day.
We have changed his diet as now we cook all his foods for him.
Yoda also developed an eye infection the past few days. He's been very weak the past few days and he seems tired as his little body has gone through so much. It's been hard for Yoda after he lost his sight, as he's scared of a lot of things and just wants to be held most of the time, which we usually do accommodate.
We're not sure if he's in constant pain, but we do sense he is very tired and uncomfortable... We wish there was more we can do for him.
