To me, it's actually very important to distinguish btwn an artery (main branch) and an arteriole (minor/smaller branch)...as evidenced too by the definition you provided above. Nipping an artery, for example, branching off of the aorta is a far different matter than nipping an arteriole or a capillary bed.

I think we're basically saying the same thing, aren't we? We're just disagreeing on how to say it.
Yes, we're just being territorial, like our dogs, LOL! Nipping an artery will lead to much greater blood loss than nipping an arteriole, but both are under pressure.
