My little one, Ricky will put the brakes on when he doesn't feel like taking another step...and if you want him to go, you literally would have to drag him, which I won't do because I am afraid his pads will get cut up from dragging him...so I usually just scoop him up and keep going and put him down a few minutes later and he will walk again.
I don't know why he does this and why I haven't been able to break him of it. He goes on walks twice daily in the summer so you'd think he'd be used to walking on a leash.
In the past, when I've had dogs that refused to walk, a few nudges on the leash or calling their name would get them going again but Ricky is a stubborn little thing. He's done this since I got him.
My other pup has no problems walking on the leash...occasionally, he will get stuck on a scent, but he doesn't put on the brakes like Ricky does.
