Check him closer for cuts or a torn toenail, as that blood looks very bright and in dots and streaks. If it was in urine or in his poo it would be more diluted I think.

Are his toenails sharp? Sometimes they can scratch themselves behind their ear or someplace if he is itching and tear the skin a bit. It's hard to see in dark fur, but you can take a moist white washcloth or paper towel and wipe all over him to see where it came from.

Of course, keep an eye on him and have a vet check up as soon as you can, especially as he is very young.
