While it usually shows up in older pups, I have seen/heard of puppies with symptomatic cases of tracheal collapse. Collapsed trachea can be present without symptoms. While not proven, it is suspected to be genetic in origin. It is a condition of weakened rings of cartilage in the trachea. Contrary to belief, leash walking with a collar is not the cause but can be a terrible stress on the trachea. If your puppy pulls when walking, be sure he is wearing a harness.
It can be diagnosed by xrays but it is not always evident on them. It if shows in the xray then it is considered diagnostic; but if it does not show and there are symptoms, a flouroscopy can be done. That shows the inspiration and expiration in real time and a diagnosis can be made.
It sounds like your vet is guessing this based on what you have told him/her. If you think this is CT I strongly suggest you find out by diagnostic testing since it would be important to know since your puppy is symptomatic. He may need medications. |
