This is taken directly from a package insert of Sentinel which I have right here in front of me: How Supplied: SENTINEL Flavor Tabs are available in four tablet sizes.
Also ....
"To insure adequate absorption, always administer Sentinel Flavor Tabs to dogs immediately after or in conjunction with a normal meal."
So there you have it, straight from Novartis. Sentinel comes in tablet form, and there is NO mention by the manufacturer that it MUST be chewed to be effective, just that it be given after a meal.
I have never used Sentinel Spectrum, but according to Novartis' website it is supplied as a chew, not a tablet. And they also say: "Dose must be given with a full meal, either within food or immediately afterwards (to allow effective absorption of lufenuron)."
I'm just guessing here, but I suspect that it is like a heartguard chew where the medication is not evenly distributed throughout the chew so you can't split it and your dog must consume the entire chew.
But nowhere on their website does it say that either MUST be chewed to be effective.
