I have traveled with several different dogs over the years. I stay in pet friendly hotels,etc. I always left them in a small pup tent, lightweight. Pixie hates anything that resembles a crate. I take her Barbie folding playpen and leave the one sided flap open and doggy proof the bathroom, close the door and tape a large note on it, 'DO NOT ENTER VICIOUS DOG!' I notify housekeeping not to do the room until I call, leave a do not disturb sign on the door and notify the desk or security that I left Pixie in my room. There is also a folding playpen in a travel bag/shoulder strap, with a velco flap on one end. I have seen them in Pet Edge and several other catalogs.
I never had a problem.
