Default Almost a Yorkie

We have a rescue, not really sure of parentage. He is three, sweet as can be, loves his mom, very social at the dog parks, we call him "the Mayor". We are working on a few bad habits, barking at any noise outside the house. He loves his mom more than anything and tolerates his sister, another rescue. They play hard sometimes but rarely get serious. I know he is not a purebred, don't really want to spend the $70 to find out what he is. He is about 13 lbs. I would like some recommendations on cutting his hair. The warm season is coming here in Florida and we want to get him comfortable.
He has Yorkie hair on his face and legs, his body has fur that sheds. His mom trims his facial hair but not sure how much would be appropriate.
Any suggestions much appreciated.
