I got a puppy when my dog was about 4 and it took a long time before they became friends. It depends on your dog. Puppies have LOTS of energy and are often annoying to adult dogs, they will put up with them usually but I wouldn't expect friendship right off the bat. Honestly if I could do it again I would rescue a 1 or 2 year old. That way they are past the awful puppy stage, you can really see what their personality is like and they are more likely to be friends. What ever you do please consider adopting, even puppies get turned into shelter and rescue groups all the time. Good luck!
