8 weeks is legal, 10 weeks may be 'the norm', 12 weeks is optimal for Yorkie pups. So much is learned from the mom and being with the littermates during weeks 11 & 12. Also at 12 weeks, the pups are stronger and can better handle the stress of moving to a new home, new people and a new environment. Waiting gives their immune systems a little more time to mature, and lessens the frequency of a pup going hypoglycemic, which is a threat until they're 12 weeks old. |
