I agree with Kathy's suggestion to have your husband and son get down on the floor as much as possible. Have them sit with some fun toys and let Bentley come to them on his own terms. Your husband and son can throw a toy back and forth to try to entice Bentley, but tell them not to be too loud or animated.

My boys are very affectionate, but they don't really like traditional style petting -- like rubbing the hand down the back. They prefer massage style or gentle scratching, mostly behind the ears, on the shoulders, the chest area, and the back haunches.

Make sure your husband and son don't approach Bentley by putting their hands over his head. Many dogs dislike that or it makes them nervous.

Try leaving Bentley with your husband and son alone. My one boy who isn't keen about visitors is completely different if I am not in the room or in the house.
