Potty Trained in One Week! Hi, everyone.
I just got my Yorkie a week ago - at 9 weeks of age. I had read nightmares about how difficult it was to potty train, let alone indoor potty train. I live in a high rise in Dubai and I am gone 9 hours a day.
I have been leaving her confined to a small bathroom while I'm at work and at night. I have used both the indoor potty patch and pee pads. When I am home, I would have her tethered to me with a leash and harness. For about 5 days, my house reeked of urine. Finally, I washed all of the floors really well (it's all tile, no carpet) I left the potty patch on the balcony (door open) and one pad with a tray in the living room. The last two days (granted it's the weekend) I have given her full run of the house (with me still checking up on her and letting her know I'm onto her if she starts sniffing an area) and she has used the pad in the living room nearly every single time, or gone potty directly next to it if it it is full of waste. So, if we are hanging out on the balcony, she will automatically defecate on the grass and if we are chilling in the living room, she immediately goes to the pad. And while she is sleeping in the bathroom at night, she wakes up to use her pad.
Is this too good to be true? As soon as I try to move the pad into my half bathroom, she will have an accident in the same place where the pad was. Although, she will use it in the bathroom when confined with a baby gate.
Any tips? |
