Low thyroid results can mean hypothyroidism or euthyroid sick syndrome. If it is true hypothyroid a med will control it. To diagnose another T4 would need to be done by equilibrium dialysis (if blood was sent to a lab they can add this on now) or a thyroid panel. If further testing is normal then you may be looking at sick syndrome which is just a fancy way of saying something somewhere is causing the number to read low (like a disease process somewhere else in the body).

If the dental is an urgent thing then no worries. You can always put it off until this is sorted out if you want to be extremely cautious. If it was only slightly low it may be nothing at all.
