Thank you, our so dear friend for hoping & praying the medication will help Sheila.

Sheila is very allergic to codeine, and oxycodone is a member of the codeine family, so her DO was cautious about prescribing it. But he knows she is in a great deal of pain, and he knows that Sheila is very careful, when starting a new medication. He advised her to cut a 5 mg. pill in half, and he knows she will be very observant for any allergic reactions.

So, this afternoon, I used her pill cutter and cut a 5 mg. pill in half.(thankfully, the tablet is scored, so it can easily be cut in half with a pill cutter.) So far, so good. The only thing she noticed is that she became very thirsty, and she felt some nausea. But, she hadn't had anything to eat but some Cream of Rice made with water.

She itched like crazy and her hands swelled so much on codeine, that she couldn't get her wedding ring off.

No, I'm sorry to say that she can't drink any of the nutritional drinks.

I *think* if the oxycodone doesn't cause her any allergic reactions, she may be able to eat more-although her diet must remain the same, until the time the LC goes into remission.

If that 2.5 makes her too sick or gives her other symptoms, maybe she can take that in pieces bit at a time and work up to a full dose of 2.5 maybe like I have to do to prevent my getting too much of the medication at once. I sure hope she has no bad effects from it and can get some relief. My doctor gave me some Hydroxyzine HCL, I think it's called, which is like Atarax, and it helps the itching so much.

I'm so hoping that Sheila has a good night with less pain. I'll be praying that happens.
