we had traveled to see the Bucks play at the alamo dome in San Antonio when Ahia was still a pup. I too was afraid to leave them alone in the motel. I wasn't worried so much about them being stolen (although i should have been). I was more worried about them feeling like I would never come back for them. I did some research and got a pet sitter that would come to the motel. It was quite expensive for the evening but well worth it. I was on the phone with this lady several times over a week before hand. I told her if she stole my babies I would break both her knee caps. LOL. she turned out to be really nice and was really good with them. they really liked her too.
This might be an option for you too.
