Although diet (high fat or high protein) can be triggers to setting pancreatitis off, they really don't know all the causes. It can smolder for a very long time and some nutritionists take a very strict dietary approach. I remember when Barney had pancreatitis four years ago, I had done a consult with a vet nutritionist and she told me to avoid high sugar foods like bananas. In Gizmo's case the nutritional approach is complicated by the oxalate stones. Sometimes higher fat or higher meat diets are better for stones and may not be also appropriate for pancreatitis prevention.
