Default Gizmo has pancreatitis...

Oh gosh...woke up at 6:30 this morning .. Cookie had awakened me. Found Gizmo walking around with diarrhea in my bathroom. I picked him up and found all this mucous hanging from his mouth....so I cleaned him up and put him in his bed. Then went to get paper towels to start cleaning up the floor. What a mess ... apparently he vomited for some time prior to the diarrhea as there was clear slime all over. You could not see it on the tile. He had stopped at that point, so I got all the pups fed and then off to the vet we went. On exam his tummy was not painful and he did not seem to be dehydrated. We discussed options and decided that blood work and a snap CPLi should be done. Ugh...positive snap test and his blood work showed significant dehydration. This is the second pup I have had that showed dehydration in blood work prior to showing symptoms. The moral to that story? Don't avoid blood work ever! These little ones can be so sick without us realizing how bad it is.

He is now in ICU at Gulf Coast Vet Specialists in Houston. They have him on IVs and are doing an ultrasound today. This is his second time there in a year.

I feel terrible. I had groomed him yesterday and in the middle of it, he got upset and really kind of spazzed out on me. He is usually so good for grooming I don't know now if maybe the stress from that set him off....OR if he was maybe brewing something and was uncomfortable. He has been eating well and had no diarrhea prior to this morning. If only they could talk. Poor Gizmo...he is 13 now and a frail little guy. He is blind...so it kills me to see him go through this and be in a strange place.
