Wish us luck! Separation issues.. We will begin training Ripley this weekend to be without us for periods of 30 minutes on this weekend - then increasing the time. She really hates to be away from us. My husband is retired and is home with her all day, but if he leaves, she pitches a fit. Barks and whines - he thinks the whole time. She even hates to be separated by the shower door which she can see through. She whines and scratches at the glass while I shower.
So we are planning to "pretend" to leave and then sneak back in through the basement and wait for about 30 minutes to see how she does. We are prepared to do it every day till she calms down and we can leave her for a while. We are planning a 10 day trip to the beach in May and we don't want her distracting others in the condo complex. We need to get this under control because we go to the beach frequently and don't want to kennel her. |
