This is a very interesting question. Strictly speaking, I agree that in the dog world, hugging is considered an aggressive move.

However, Max and Teddy love to be hugged, cradled like babies. Our previous dog, a large Airedale, loved it too. Only by family in most cases. Max happily took a hug from the vet.

Maybe hugging is a trained behavior?
