I agree. Yorkies tend to be get attached to their owners, especially the boys. I've never had a girl to compare, but I hear the girls tend to be more independent. I've also heard that the male dogs gravitate to women and the female dogs get more attached to men.

I personally don't think being really attached is bad unless the puppy is having separation anxiety or aggression/fear and anti-social issues because of it. If the puppy has a healthy temperment, than I don't see a problem.

Unfortunately, my older dog has issues...his separation anxiety isn't nearly as bad as it was since I got a second dog, but his aggression is still horrible. He thinks he needs to protect me so he acts out towards others and he won't let anyone else touch him, . My other pup, Ricky sounds more like Lola! He loves me, but if I am not around, he'll find a new friend to hang with until I get back.

I do find the attatchment to be an issue as far as traveling goes. I've never left Ricky and I only have spent one night away from Prince. I could leave them at my moms but i am just not sure how they'd do...or how I would do. I thought about just having someone babysit the boys, but since my older guy is afraid of strangers and the boys are used to sleeping with me, I just haven't been able to leave them for the night...but I guess some of that might be MY attachment issues, not theirs!! LOL!

If you are worried about Gizmo getting too attached, maybe you could take him to doggy daycare once in a while. It would get him out and socializing with other pets...and without you being there. Most daycares have cameras set up so you can check in on your pup. My friend's pup was very clingy and he took him to daycare and now the pup is way more independent.
