Absolutely my vet does blood work before any thing where they will need anesthesia. My uncle didn't know about the blood work thing so I told him about it before his little girl pup went under and it was a good thing I did because her liver had issues and going under at that time could have had complications and possibly killed her. She ended up on medicine and eventually havering to get it done with a specialist.
