As far as what to do when you pick her up/aftercare -- make SURE you go home w/ pain meds -AND- always make sure you ask your vet what you should do if it seems her pain is not being managed / she is in too much pain. Oftentimes, vets will give you an alternate dosage plan if/when pain is not managed properly. Remember, this is abdominal surgery, which is no small thing, and it hurts...so make sure you have a plan.
That said, it's usually shocking just how fast they snap back! You'll want to make sure she isn't running all over the place or being too rambunctious - so yes, make sure she's confined a small, safe place when you're not home.
As far as sleeping in bed - mine all sleep w/ us and we have little doggie stairs so they can get up and down safely.
Keep us posted on how she does, and I hope it all goes well! |
Thank you so much! I am worried about the kennel situation. Ellie has never been kennel trained. We attempted but she hated it so much I was worried she would hurt herself in it. Do you think she will be different in it after surgery?
