When I first started with Yorkies, I tried to let their coats grow out. But, given that I take them Hunting along a Bayou, which they jump into to catch Frogs or Snakes, made long coats a hazard more than a comfort. In route, they are very prone to flop down in a puddle of water to cool off as well. It's quite hot in this area and our winters are very short and usually mild.

I take my guys to the Groomer three times a year, getting her to clip them at a #7 (3/8ths inch) where they can dry out quickly. Last clip is in August, allowing their coats grow out some for Winter.
