I have a lot of respect for Dr. Schultz. In fact, he is one of the reasons why guidelines are changing (and not based on guesswork either, but science). I think his message gets mixed up in translation with bits and pieces of his recommendations online randomly. He wouldn't tell an owner to do absolutely nothing after puppy vaccines, etc.
AAHA is a middle of the road approach. I don't consider it a bad thing, but the flat every three year recommendation that most gets are using is somewhat of a misinterpretation. We are a 5 year hospital here and there is NO leaning toward holistic medicine.
One of our dogs will get DHP every 5 years. The Yorkie received her last DHP at age 5 (in 2006) and her last distemper single at age 6 (in 2007). She will not get DHP again bc I don't feel like it. Both get rabies per the law for life.
