Oh yeah, forgot about Coronado! The whole island is very cute and very dog friendly. I think the beach there in front of Hotel del Coronado is the only dog friendly beach in SD. If you have seen Some Like It Hot (Marilyn Monroe) they filmed it there. The hotel I mean, not the beach. Rooms there are ridiculously priced though.
