We use a Honeywell Hepa, but it is noisy. That is the primary reason we use it, to cover up street noise when we sleep. We got addicted to the noise when we lived in Chicago, where we were subjected to a lot of jet/truck pollution.
A sort of low cost option depending on what kind of heating/cooling you have in your house, is to buy special air filters for your furnace/ac and run the fan continuously. Change the filters frequently.
