Smile Lola is eating again!!!!

And it seems we finally got a combination of ingredients she likes!

Finally, after 3 weeks of eating mostly a liquid and pudding diet, she started eating a little more rice (with chicken and broth) over the weekend. I was desperately trying to get her to eat something to form her stool because based on what she was eating, and the only solid she was getting was chicken...well, we had a messy problem in our hands.

Oddly, her weight had been steady at her pregnancy weight, which was 2.5lbs heavier than her average weight, and she didn't have signs of dehydration, no crying, no odd behaviors, just refusing to eat, so I didn't rush her to the vet, but I was getting to the point that I thought I would have to take her before the end of this week for sure, just because she's a new mom and it can't be good to eat that little for so long. :S

So, last night, my youngest son (8) came into the room and I asked him to give Lola some love while I tended to the puppies. I was telling him how worried I was that now she wouldn't even take her Nutrical. He asked if he could try and I figured, can't hurt, so he did...and she went and licked the Nutrical right off his finger! It was just a little bit, but hey, anything short of a wrestling match to stick it in the roof of her mouth only to have her partially spit it out is a victory!

Then he asked why was her dish with the dry dog food so full. I told him she had not been eating it and I was getting ready to throw out what was in it and replenish it with fresh food to see if she would try it. Again, he asked if he could try, he did, and what do you know, Lola ate a few pieces too! Again, not a lot, but a few.

So, I had asked my husband to cook some oatmeal and mix it with the chicken and some veggies. We didn't have a lot of veggies on hand, but I figured anything was better than nothing. He did, offered it to her and she gobbled it down!!!!! I was ecstatic!

So now, we're hoping to slowly start adding her kibble into this mix as I'm very aware that this alone is not a fully nutritional and balanced meal, but from what she was eating, this is a major victory!

She then went and drank some milk/formula, had her pudding, and even drank water (she had stopped drinking milk and only having little bits of water). I hope this is it...and that we are finally turning the corner!

So far between her and the pups it has been a very long 3 weeks.
