I lived in Denham Springs when I was younger and we would always go to the Mardi Gras parades that the parishes had. My parents were a little worried to take me to N.O. I still have all my beads and coins, they are very special to me. When we moved I was so sad...mind you didn't miss the flooding but everything else. On Fat Tues our neighborhood friends would get together for a crawfish boil. At school we would celebrate too. We have been back to LA twice in the past few years but I so want to go back for Mardi Gras, not even to N.O. just to Baton Rouge. I keep the traditions though every year I make Jumbalya or Gumbo and a king cake and a few other things for fat tues just so we can still feel like we are there. Our friends will send us things from LA sometimes so I don't have to go searching for stuff that is kindof like LA food taste. |
